10K Bets: 5 Mortal Locks For The 123rd U.S. Open

123rd U.S Open

One of the best weeks of the year is finally here. This year’s U.S. Open comes to LACC for the first time in 75 years. This historic golf course was recently completely remodeled in 2010 for its hopes to bring a major championship to Los Angeles. Per usual, there will be many headlines that surround this week’s tournament. Will Brooks Keopka win yet another major? Will Max Homa continue his tear in California? Could it be Scheffler, Rahm, or Rory who strikes again? The hype surrounding this tournament every year seems to only get greater and greater.

LACC is a par 70 golf course tipping out at just a hair over 7400 yards. A course that doesn’t necessarily favor long-ball hitters but instead requires precision and accuracy to plot your way to a major championship. The single most important stat this week, according to the course fit model, is strokes gained off the tee. One golfer that is superior in this category week in and week out is none other than Scottie Scheffler.

SammyStats10k Best Bets

This week we are going to target five top 20 bets along with the outright winners. We also have Miss The Cut Props as well. We are looking to go back to back with major winners after Brooks Keopka got it done for us at the PGA Championship

Max Homa

Max Homa and PGA tournaments in California have worked very well in recent history. Homa seems to play very solid in California and aside from that, he’s a fantastic golfer that has shot a 61-course record here at LACC in college. Max is very familiar with this course and is the type of player that relies heavily on his irons and short game to score. The value is too good to pass on Max this week. Max Homa Top 20 (+125) Outright Winner (+2900)

Cameron Smith

The next golfer I will be backing this week at LACC is Cam Smith. Cam is a terrific golfer with a dominant iron game as well as a very solid putter. These are two categories that are a must in order to play well this week. Smith has shown he can compete in the highest of stages with his win at St. Andrews a little less than a year ago. When he gets it going he’s very hard to slow down. Cam Smith Top 20 (+110) Outright Winner (+3000)

Scottie Scheffler

Next up is a golfer that we all know brings his game. Scottie Scheffler is the odds-on favorite to win the tournament and honestly, I’m not shocked. Scottie is an absolute assassin on the golf course and has all the tools to win this week at LACC. He checks all the boxes. As mentioned earlier, strokes gained off the tee is the most important stat in the model. Scottie is #1 in that category and if he just gets the putter going a little bit he will run away with it this week. Scottie Scheffler Top 10 (-125) Outright Winner (+750)

Matt Fitzpatrick

This week we are also going back to the defending champ, Matt Fitzpatrick. Unlike Scottie, Fitzy has incredible value and has his game in great form recently. Fitz has shown he can compete at any venue and wouldn’t be surprised to see him in contention come the weekend. LACC fits Matty Ice very well and we’ll rely on his driving accuracy and irons to take us home. Matt Fitzpatrick Top 20 (+135) Matt Fitzpatrick Outright Winner (+3100)

Viktor Hovland

We backed Viktor just a few weeks ago at the Memorial Golf Tournament and he came through with an outright winner. We are going back to Viktor this week. Hovland has been knocking on the major door since he started his PGA career. Vik has 3 Top 5’s at majors already and seems to have a knack for showing up in big-time tournaments. We see a similar story this weekend here at LACC. Viktor Hovland Top 20 (-130) Outright Winner (+1700)

Billy Horschel To Miss The Cut

I rarely do these to “miss the cut” bets but the line is too good for me to pass up here. Billy H has been struggling mightily this year on tour and statistically has had the worst year of his professional career. All parts of his game have been out of tune and I tend to capitalize on this. Billy Horschel to Miss The Cut (-137)
