Chips are a reliable food source. Crispy, salty, spicy, crunchy, perfect. And I like do to things in lists of 37. This list could cause some fights, so let’s do it. Here are my 37 best chips ranked.
37. TGI Fridays Potato Skins
Something about these feel like they don’t belong in the chip category but that’s exactly what they are. They’re also as hot as the potato skins you get at an actual TGI Fridays.
This might be a generational thing. I’m a diehard for Flaming Hot Cheetos and Takis just don’t do it for me. They’re fine but I don’t go out of my way for them.
What a blast these little salt rings are. Actually, they’re not a blast, they’re just fun.
Much love for the OG Cheeto but Chester has a much better option that will be found much deeper down this list.
33. Pizza Pringles
Technically Pringles aren’t chips but semantics aside, they are. Pizza pringles don’t taste like pizza but they do taste like joy.
I could probably never have Fritos again and be fine but every time I eat them I wonder why I don’t eat them more often.
31. Classic Lays
Bet you can’t eat just one? Bet I can. They’re good but let’s be honest. there’s a reason they were the least exciting option in the variety pack.
30. Taco Doritos
If I were judging this based on bag design, this would be the clear #1.
29. Flamin’ Hot Limon Doritos
I can’t believe I’ve listed these so low. They’re so great. What am I doing? These are pure fire.
28. Original Lays Stax
There’s a lot of debate on Pringles vs. Lays Stax. Which one you like more is a personal choice but the OG Lays Stax is a serious contender.
27. BBQ Lays
Are these the best chips of all time? No. Has anyone ever been upset with you bringing these to a party? No.
26. MultiGrain Tostitos
Give me all the queso you have.
25. Original Pringles
In the Stax vs. Pringles debate, I give original Pringles an edge.
24. Baked Ruffles
Zach Halverson isn’t the only thing I like that’s baked.
23. Honey BBQ Twist Fritos
As far as I’m concerned, these are the only Fritos that really matter. Although I haven’t had them since I was 14 so maybe they suck now.
22. Lays Baked BBQ
I’ve only ever eaten these when I used to eat at Subway, which surprises me I ever ate at Subway because it sucks. But Oven Baked Barbecue Lays are top-notch.
21. Spicy Nacho Doritos
Y’all remember when these were called Spicier Nacho? They were better then, I swear. I might also have these criminally underrated.
20. Kettle Brand Jalapeno
I tend to eat these by the pound.
I don’t care if you want the scoops, originals, little disk ones. They’re all great.
18. Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips
I skipped Harvest Cheddar for the first 24 years of my life because the word Harvest scared me as a flavor. I was an idiot; these are incredible.
17. Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos
They taste mostly like spicy soy sauce chips and I can’t get enough.
16. Cheddar Pringles
Cheddar Pringles are an underrated flavor and I need them by the pallet.
15. Sour Cream and Onion Pringles
Once you pop the eating don’t stop.
14. Baked Lays
65% less fat than regular potato chips and 100% are better than original Lays.
13. Lays Sour Cream and Onion
The King of Lays flavors. Well, mostly. You’ll see what I mean.
12. Black Bean Garlic Tostitos
The only problem with these chips is that they’ve been discontinued. I have no idea why because they’re one of the greatest things I’ve ever eaten. These are the best chips Tostitos has ever made. BRING THEM BACK ASAP.
11. Kettle Brand Sea Salt
These are the best chips to complement a sandwich. But they’re not the best chips on this list.
10. Lays Stax Sour Cream & Onion
Ah yes, the top 10. Where lazy people start their lists and make editors much happier.
Regular Sour Cream & Onion Lays may be the king of Lays flavors but the Sour Cream & Onion Stax are even better. I’d say this means Stax wins the Pringles vs. Stax war but hold please.
9. Pringles Wavy Sweet & Tangy BBQ
These things are freaking incredible. They’re newer so it’s possible their newness is giving them an unfair advantage on this list. I’m surprised I have them this high if I’m being honest.
8. Old Dutch Jalapeno & Cheddar
I can’t get enough of these. They’re a staple in my household and they don’t last long.
7. Cool Ranch Doritos
Even at #7, I may have underrated these chips. Cool Ranch Doritos should probably be number 2.
6. Cheddar & Sour Cream Ruffles
Ruffles have RrRidges, and within those RrRidges is delicious cheddar & sour cream flavor.
5. Old Dutch Parmesan & Garlic
Oh my lort. This is pretty close to the perfect chip.
4. French Onion Sun Chips
There was a time that the Sun Chip bag was SO FREAKING LOUD that trying to eat them past 10 pm was illegal. I’ll never understand how they did this, but I can easily house an entire bag of French Onion Sun Chips in one sitting.
3. Flamin’ Hot Cheetos
Sorry, Takis. These are king. Fun fact about me: from 7th to 9th grade, my daily lunch was a bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and a Propel. This lack of nutrition at a critical time of my life is probably why I’m an idiot.
2. *Old Dutch Rip-L
Here’s the caveat, Top the Tater is required to make these number two on the list. Without Top the Tater, these freefall.
1. Nacho Cheese Doritos
The GOAT. The Tom Brady of chips. THE best chips. The most incredible chip that has ever been made.
I was in at least 3 people’s Myspace Top 8. I have as many NBA Championships as Tom Brady. I’m probably too old to be here. @NickLewis37
