An Honest Review of the United Center: From a Wild Fan

Hockey Wild

In the last week, I’ve been lucky(?) enough to attend two Wild games. The first was the 4th of April against the Avs (thanks Dad) at the Xcel Energy Center while the most recent was the 7th against the Blackhawks at the United Center (happy birthday George). For any Wild fans thinking of going down to Chicago for a Wild/Hawks game, I would encourage you to continue to read.

Walking into the arena itself, was awesome. I was impressed by how clean the arena was. It also looked fairly updated (per Google, interior updates were in 2010 and exterior updates were done in 2014). The restaurants inside of the arena also gave fans lots of options to choose from. Plus, if you’re an Amex card holder, you get 10% off your purchase! Kudos to me for saving a few dimes and nickels.

The bathrooms were also pretty decent. Lines were moving, mostly clean, props to the janitorial staff as most sports arena restrooms can be a place in hell.

Helpfulness of Staff

Well, when we get Minnesota nice at our local rink, the United Center left some things to be desired. First off, I’m still waiting for a response from their account…

0 for 1.

Secondly, upon the game ending, a group of us actually exited the stadium, to which there was a no-reentry policy. This makes sense, and I think is the standard at most venues however, I hadn’t even moved to the entryway when I was asked to leave by an usher. Upon my explaining the situation to them, they indicated that “You are part of that group, they left, so you need to leave”.

0 for 2.

Rating: 0/10 (will bump up from a zero if United Center responds, the ball is in their court).

A classic staple of any sporting event is the chicken tender basket. Now, with chicken tendies, you gotta go an exotic sauce like BBQ or honey mustard. The United Center didn’t have either. Instead, they had a BBQ aioli, which was more like a sweet mustard (but not honey mustard) and looked like anal seepage. The other sauce was another shit sauce. Both were runny, hindsight being 20/20, should’ve just gone ketchup. I wish I had taken a picture, but I had a bone in one of my chicken tendies!

The beer was fine, it was beer and did the trick.

Editor Note: Buying a chicken tender basket down in Chicago is an insane call. How do you not get a Chicago-style dog or an Italian beef?

Game Viewing

Watching the game we sat in the 300 section. We had rows 1 and 2. I was impressed with how well the view from our section was for the game, ask Sarge:

Plus, the Wild won, which for sure adds to the experience.

A really cool feature of the United Center was the exit parking situation (not sure what the drop off situation is, as we went to a local watering hole beforehand). They had an Uber tent that allows your Uber driver to have a designated pickup spot for you. It worked flawlessly and honestly, is something the X could benefit from. Parking was nice…

Overall Rating

Overall, the experience was good, not great. I’m all for a Wild win, so that made this experience slightly better.
