Changing Goalies On The Fly Is The Sickest Flex In Hockey.

Hockey

If you thought you’d seen it all when it came to hockey, think again. Last night seemed like another standard ECAC hockey game. It was someone’s turn to give a beating to the new kid on the block, LIU. In what ended up as a 7-1 route, you’d expect the most-viewed highlight to be an incredible goal or a crazy save. You’d be wrong though. In the middle of play, Quinnipiac decided to swap tendies ON THE FLY!

A goalie change makes a STATEMENT

I’m from Hermantown and went to school at UMD. I’ve seen a LOT of coaches make changes with a big lead in a hockey game. However, most of those changes are things like “you have to pass it 10 times before every shot” or “you can only shoot backhand”. To do something as batshit crazy as swapping out your goalie LIVE shows you have nuts of titanium. The coach wanted to make sure his senior tendy saw some ice time. He was willing to make it happen by any means necessary. Any. Means. Necessary.

Quinnipiac: Hockey School

The ECAC division of college hockey leaves something to be desired from a competition standpoint. When compared to the powerhouse that is NCHC or even the Big 10, this is especially true. Throw in the fact that all the Ivy League teams cancelled their season this year and the conference has never been in a worse position. With all that being said, I’ve developed some more respect for Quinnipiac.

They have had some sneaky success recently, making it to the championship game twice in the last 10 years. I hate to say it, but that’s more than you can say for the Gophers! With a coach who’s got the player’s best interest in mind and a focus on their hockey program, it’s a fun team to watch. If you’re looking for a team to root for on the opposite side of the bracket this is the one. That is, of course, until they run into one of the Minnesota schools…then all bets are off.

Go Dogs!
