The NFL offseason’s sleepy period is about to wake up. The Combine is over and free agency tampering is here. So you know the Vikings were up to something and had to make cuts, in order to get themselves $24 million under the cap level. Monday we got our first bit of news when the Vikings decided to cut long-time linebacker, Eric Kendricks.
The news came abruptly, but it’s not too much of a surprise. Kendricks’ level of play has dipped significantly in the last 2 seasons, and he was due over $10m this season. The market is tough; you either pay a guy at his value or WAY over it, or you move on and go cheap. And it looks like the Vikings are following plan B.
Eric Kendricks was a stud in his 8 seasons wearing purple and gold, leading the team in tackles 7 out of 8 years. Not to mention a couple of sweet Pick-6s, and who could forget that flow? But more than that, he was heavily involved in the community. A great person and a team captain at one point, the Vikings part ways with a key mainstay of that defense. Safe to say there will be plenty more changes to come. Thanks for everything Eric. You were the man for us and we appreciate you.
