Let’s talk hockey. Specifically about the Minnesota Wild’s latest transaction. They’ve gone ahead and re-signed defenseman Calen Addison to a one-year deal for $825,000. Now, before we go any further, hats off to Addison for those 26 assists last season. It’s no small feat, especially for a rookie.
But here’s where the plot thickens. After such a great performance to start the year, Calen found himself taking a “vacation” for the last 20 games of the season. And when it was time to face Dallas in the playoffs, Addison wasn’t on the ice. To be a fly on the wall for that conversation…
With this signing, our cap space resembles my college bank account after a weekend splurge: tight and filled with regret. Now, don’t get me wrong, Addison’s potential is clear. But consistency? That’s still on the pending list.
And let’s not forget about the gaping hole left by Matt Dumba’s departure. Filling his shoes is like trying to replace the lead singer of a legendary rock band (talking to you, Queen. Idiots). It’s no easy task. But here we are, crossing our fingers and hoping for a stellar sophomore season from Addison.
The 2023-2024 season is just around the corner. Let’s hope Calen Addison does his best Jordan Addison impression and scores repeatedly, filling those big shoes the way we’re all rooting for.
