I Fucking Miss Royce Lewis

The miserable joke of a 2022 Minnesota Twins season is officially over. Thank fuck! But even before it was really over, I had been thinking a lot about what could have happened if certain events did not occur. With that being said, I think one event stands out more than anything else. An injury to be exact. I fucking miss Royce Lewis.

Lewis’ Knee Injury

The Twins season really began to go down hill on May 29th. I recall watching that game. In the 3rd inning against the Kansas City Royals, our prized #1 prospect, Lewis crashed into the wall. Upon grabbing his knee, I knew something was fucked but did not quite know what.

When Dick Bremer said he had hoped Lewis only had the wind knocked out of him, I definitely knew he had suffered a major injury. My only question is, does he not know the Twins? Does he not know we suffer injuries at a catastrophic rate compared to other teams?

Lewis’ injury was thought as a bone bruise at first. It was later determined he had torn his ACL. Sadly, it was the same one he had just had surgery to repair a year earlier.

Contributions Before Injury

Upon being called up on May 6th, we knew that Lewis was something special.

He got his first big league hit on the same night, a single to right field.

A few games later, Lewis hit his 1st big league home run.

In just 12 games, he had shown Twins fans that there is a lot to look forward to in the future with him. But what do we have to look forward to now that he’s batting another injury?

Will Lewis rally once more?

Being fans in Minnesota, we know more than just about any other fan base that injuries can derail seasons. Not only is it devastating to a teams overall performance, but it can be detrimental to a players career going forward.

He has already had to work his ass off from his first ACL tear. He literally didn’t play professional baseball for two years. That clearly didn’t stop him though.

With ACL tears being one of the toughest injuries to come back from in all of sports, it’s hard to say if Lewis can return to what we saw earlier this year. Given he’s done it once already, who am I to write this guy off? I just hope he’s not put on the Buxton treatment where we’ll see him 2 times a week.

I miss you Royce Lewis. Come back healthy and please save our fucking team.
