Metro Minny ’22 Preview

Baseball

The weather is finally 60 degrees and dry, people are already planning their Memorial Day barbeque, that can only mean one thing Metro Minny baseball is around the corner.

The Metro Minny is a class B townball league made up of 8 teams. AndoverAnoka, Blaine, CentennialChamplinCoon RapidsForest Lake, and St. Michael. The highly competitive league continues to get better and better. Here is the team by team preview for the ’22 season of Metro Minny.

Andover Aces

The Aces have been the young team in the league for a while and kind of the punching bag on the schedule. In 2022 that should be different. With a revamped roster and depth on the mound and in the lineup, The Aces are ready to take the next step. The goal for this squad is to make some noise in the playoffs come August.

First League Game: May 31, 7:30 @ Anoka

Plus, look at who pulls for them. The time to get on the Andover Aces bandwagon is now.

Anoka Bucs

The Bucs have turned into one of the most consistent teams in all the state. After being ranked top 10 in class B for most of last year, the Bucs returned to state for the 3rd consecutive year. They pitch the hell out of the ball and catch and throw as well as anyone in the Metro Minny. The next step for Anoka is to make a run in the tournament.

First League Game: May 25, 7:30 @ St. Michael

Centennial Cougars

As the newest team in the Metro Minny the Cougs took some lumps early but they have gradually gotten more and more competitive the last few years. With a handful of high school and college additions and some more experience in townball the Cougars should be a sneaky tough team night in and night out. Watch for Centennial to take a big step in 2022.

First League Game: June 2, 7:30 @ Blaine

Champlin LoGators

The LoGators are coming off their best season in club history. A 3rd place finish in State on an incredible run lead by the best player in the state Sam Riola. Not only are they returning most of their team but they have made some huge additions. Look for Champlin to make a run at Miesville and Chanhassen for the state championship.

First League Game: June 1, 7:30 vs. Coon Rapids

Coon Rapids Red Birds

The Red Birds are always in the fight for the Metro Minny title. Year in and year out they have been a consistent team in the league and I don’t see that changing this year. Look for the Red Birds to be back at the state tournament in mid August.

First League Game: June 1, 7:30 @ Champlin

Blaine Fusion

Arguably one of, if not the, most talented teams in the state, the Fusion should once again be very good. But very good for the Fusion isn’t good enough. After a 2 year drought from state, Blaine is a team that is always ranked top 5 in Class B and a team that can make a run and win it all. It’s highly likely the Fusion are playing baseball Labor Day weekend.

First League Game: June 2, 7:30 vs. Centennial

Forest Lake Brewers

The Brew Crew, like the Red Birds are always in the midst of being one the best teams in the League. They have quietly became one of the best pitching teams around, a staff that can keep them in any ballgame. Brew Crew look to make it to the state tournament again this year and get hot while there.

First League Game: June 8, 7:30 vs. Coon Rapids

St. Michael Saints

Back to back years the Saints had sub par regular seasons only to get hot in the playoffs and go to state including a huge upset over a top tier team in Moorehead. With a great high school program the Saints should be a tough team once again and nobody should count St. Michael out.

First League Game: Wednesday, May 25, 7:30 vs. Anoka

Good luck to all 8 team that represent the metro Minny. The first matchup is Anoka @ St. Michael on May 25th. All schedules, stats, standings and more can be found on the Metro Minny website.
