Night 31: The Witches Are Back!

Everything Else

Okay everyone, we’re finally here. We’ve FINALLY made it to night 31 of my Halloween Horror Movie Marathon where we’re going to take a dive into Hocus Pocus 2. As it being a Disney+ family Halloween movie, it only registers as a 1.5/10. However, as an overall score, it registers as solid 7/10.

You see, it’s VERY hard to create a sequel to a movie that didn’t necessarily need one hence why this score didn’t boast as well as the original. But it’s still a fun one to watch with the family this season.

Let’s Dive In

Right off the bat we’re taken back to the 1600s in Salem where we’re instantly introduced to the Sanderson sisters, but as children. Much like they’re older selves, they’re the worst. The sisters are hated by the towns people, especially Winifred, and it leads to their leave of the town.

As the three leave and make their way to the forbidden forest, they come across a witch. It’s this moment where we see how the Sanderson sisters receive their powers. Honestly, after watching the first one like a million times, I had much higher expectations. Extremely disappointing but it is what it is I guess.

Fast forward a few hundred years we find ourselves in present day Salem. A city that celebrates the events that unfolded 23 years prior when the Sanderson sisters were brought back from the grave. Here we’re introduced to two young high schoolers, Becca and Izzy. These two, unbeknownst to them, are tricked into lighting a candle in the woods. A candle with remnants of the black flame candle that ends up bringing back the witches to fulfill their destiny… Sucking the souls of children and staying young (and alive) forever.

Along the way we’re introduced to new, and old, characters (welcome back Billy!) while watching the storyline unfold. Do we see the Sanderson sisters return back to the grave or do they fulfill their destiny?

That’s a Wrap!

It’s been one heck of a ride this October. 31 days of scary movies was quite the feat, especially writing about everything but it was extremely worth it. Friends, if you ever need a good scary movie suggestion, you know where to find me.

Until next Halloween friends!
