2020 has been filled with heartbreak for Minnesota fans. You’ve got the Wild doing Wild things in the NHL bubble. Gophers Football starting out with a STATEMENT “L” in their first game against Michigan. The Loons absolute travesty of a loss that can only be compared to the Hindenburg. And finally, the Vikings annual roller-coaster getting de-railed with the Dan Bailey circus last week.
And then, seemingly out of nowhere, there’s Gophers Hockey.
Minnesota has absolutely DOMINATED the college hockey world since the NCAA season kicked off. Yes, I’m aware that the Gophers are playing in the Big 10. While I agree that it’s not the best conference, 8-0 is 8-0. Doing that while leading every minute from every game and having a perfect penalty kill is something else altogether. All this success has led to a NUMBER ONE ranking in the USA Hockey and USCHO polls. This is the first time the Gophers have been at the top since 2014; they ended that season with a trip to the national championship game.
It’s not too late for the rest of the state to jump on the bandwagon that is the 2020 Gophers hockey team. As a self-appointed ambassador for the sport, this is an open invitation to everyone. The train may have already left the station, but there’s room for more and with a Big 10-only schedule, the fun is just starting. If I’ve learned anything living in this state, you’ve got to enjoy it while it lasts, so scream it from the rooftops, out the windows, and especially at every Badger and Sioux Fighting Hawk fan that you see, “We’re Number One”!
I’ve been hit by cars three times, which is an indication of how stubborn I am.
I write about everything across the board, but focus on Hockey and the pain that is Minnesota sports.
