The BEST High School Sports Team is in Minnesota

The BEST High School Sports Team is in Minnesota.

Everything Else Hockey

For those who don’t know, Montverde Academy lives as arguably the most elite basketball prep school in the country. Young hoopers from around the world compete endlessly, just hoping for a potential invite to this prestigious program. Basically, if you’ve been force fed basketballs since you could walk, Montverde is the dream. Normally, I’d say that’s way too much hype, but their alumni speak for themselves. 2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid, All-NBA Forward Ben Simmons, and NBA All-Star Guard D’Angelo Russell, just to name a few, all were Montverde Eagles. Now that you have a little background, this school’s blowing up because people are saying the ’23-24 version might be the best high school sports team of all time.

I won’t lie to you. Having 5 starters, including the #1 overall player, who are all in the Top-25 is simply absurd. Who’s on the bench? Oh just a bunch of other 4 and 5 star players. No big deal. It’s pretty safe to say that this team is ridiculous. But now it’s time to get controversial. They aren’t even the best high school sports team in the country right now. Honestly, it’s not even close. That honor would go to the Minnetonka Skippers Boys Hockey Team. Don’t believe me, let’s look at the data.

The Best High School Sports Team: Minnetonka Boys Hockey

Minnetonka has 9 players committed to D1 programs. 4 of those teams are currently in the Top 20 with Denver, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Norte Dame ranked 4, 5, 9, and 20 respectively. They also won the Minnesota AA State Championship last year and are 15-0-2 to start this year. And yes, that makes the the #1 ranked hockey team in the state of hockey. Also, I forgot to mention that they’re just a public school in Minnesota, not a private or charter academy.

Montverde has 8 players who will be committed to D1 programs. For their 2 sophomores, I listed their best current offer, but I’m sure they’ll get even more as they get better. 3 of those teams are in the Top 25 with Auburn, Duke, and Baylor ranked 8, 12, and 15 respectively. They haven’t won any state titles together yet, but they have started the year out 21-0.

Who’s Better?

Both squads are undefeated, have the majority of their starting lineups going to highly ranked D1 universities, and will likely yield some professional athletes. However, there’s three big differences separating the two programs. First, Minnetonka is a public school. Even though there is open enrollment, these aren’t all hand-picked guys from around the country. Second, Minnetonka’s already got a chip while this group at Montverde is hoping to capture one. Can’t be the best if you haven’t won it all. Lastly, a group of hockey dudes would for sure win in a fight. So you tell me: who’s the best high school sports team?
