Top 10 Most Underrated Rock Bands

Everything Else

After upsetting the masses with my top 10 overrated rock bands blog, I’m shooting to do the same with my top 10 underrated rock bands list. I listened to over 87,000 minutes aka 3 months of music last year according to my Spotify wrapped. Most of those minutes were spent listening to rock music, my favorite genre of music.

So, with that being said, I’m more than qualified to create this list. My guess is that if you made the effort to click on this blog (love you for that) you’ll be familiar with all of the bands. These bands all have 3 things in common. They are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, all are underappreciated and they fucking ROCK! Let’s get into it.

10) Chevelle

For 27 years, Chevelle has flown under the radar for the most part. To me, they are a waaaaay better Deftones. With songs like the ones above, as well as “Letter from a Thief” and many others, Chevelle deserves more share of the spotlight. I have vivid memories of tuning my guitar to drop D in an attempt to learn some of their songs in middle school. Their “Wonder What’s Next” album shreds.

9) Steve Miller Band

The fact the Steve Miller Band isn’t in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and LL Cool J is, seems ridiculous. They are the forgotten rock band of the 70s, which I personally believe was the best stretch of music ever. Steve Miller Band has so many hits that about everyone and their mother knows. It’s a shame they aren’t in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and probably won’t ever get in. Tragic.

8) Audioslave

Fun fact, Audioslave is Rage Against the Machine but with a different lead singer. There’s even a legitimate argument to be made that they are better than Rage. I don’t think you could go wrong either way. They both fucking ROCK! It’s a shame we lost Chris Cornell 6 years ago. He had an all-time voice.

7) Seether

Next on the list of top 10 underrated rock bands is none other than Seether. You’re such a fuckin’ hypocrite if you don’t like them. Every time I listen to Seether I somehow end up smoking multiple cigarettes and looking at motorcycles for sale on Craigslist. Seether is the #1 rock band for divorced dads, I have no legitimate data to support this claim but if you’ve ever listened to their music, you agree with me.

6) The Offspring

The Offspring is one of those bands where you can’t name one of their songs but you know all their songs. I had a chance to see them at the State Fair back in 2018 when they opened for 311 (one of my favorite bands) and was blown away by how many songs I recognized. Even at their old age they still had it. So many bangers.

5) Bloodhound Gang

Bloodhound Gang will never get the credit they deserve for their music. They are the only rock band on the planet that can make your head bang and laugh at the same time. Just listen to any of the lyrics in any of their songs. Comedic and rock gold.

4) Styx

I’ve got a secret I’ve been hiding. The Styx fucking ROCK! Every song they’ve ever written is just epic. It’s like they are taking you on a musical journey through space and time. Whenever Mr. Roboto plays around me, I lose control of my hips and start feverishly hip-thrusting to the beat.

3) No Doubt

Now some might claim that No Doubt isn’t technically a “rock” band. To those people, fuck you and you’re stupid opinion. They are so incredibly underrated in general that they need to be on this list. Dive back into them I promise you won’t regret it. No Doubt’s music is hella good. See what I did there?

2) Wolfmother

There was just no way I could leave Wolfmother off the top 10 underrated rock bands list. I don’t hear shit about them and I can’t comprehend why that is. I want Joker and the Thief to be playing on repeat at my funeral. Tears will be flying off people’s faces as they’re head-banging to the song.

1) Scorpions

The Scorpions, in my expert & correct opinion, are the most underrated rock band of all time. Led by legendary frontman, “the metal midget” Ronnie James Dio and lead guitarist Uli Jon Roth, the Scorpions are one of the best-selling bands in music history selling over 100 million albums worldwide. They firmly cemented themselves in rock & roll history and are considered one of the most influential rock bands of all time. It makes absolutely no sense why they’re not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
