Vikings Draft JJ McCarthy and Dallas Turner

Football NFL Vikings

After months of speculation, the dust has finally settled, and the Vikings draft Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy and Edge Rusher Dallas Turner. All the rumors and wishes can now come to an end. Kwesi and KOC got their guy.

This was an absolute rollercoaster of a draft to get there, as everyone and their mother assumed the Vikes would be trading up into the top 5 to take him. That ended up not coming to be, but the Cardinals and Chargers hold strong and don’t take a QB. Once the Giants pick passed, all seemed clear for us to get our guy at 11, while still keeping Pick #23.

Then, of ALL teams, the Atlanta Falcons come along and draft Michael Penix Jr.. After TAMPERING with our former quarterback Kirk Cousins and paying him $180 Million, they add an older rookie. Absolute brainbuster of a pick by the Falcons there. Hope you enjoy the new company, Kirk!

Given the clearing of the board, the Vikings decided to send a 4th and a 5th to the Jets in order to move up one pick and be safe (we got a 6th back in the process). Like I said, it was a whirlwind of a path, but we got our guy, and officially the Vikings Draft JJ McCarthy.

The knocks on him are obvious, and they’ve been beaten to death. He was in a stacked, run-first offense with a giant O-line and a killer defense. His number wasn’t called much, and that’s a little scary. The thing is McCarthy’s shown up when his number is called, and he’s got a great mentality. He’s also literally a winner, bringing Michigan back to a prominence they haven’t know in years. Nick Saban had him at #1 on 3rd down. Harbaugh swears he’s the greatest QB in Michigan history (can’t think of anyone else who might qualify).

If you ask me, it’s time to back our guy Vikings nation. He’s got a great supporting cast and a coaching staff that’s capable of developing. Also, Cool-Hand Kwesi kept our other first-round pick through all the madness. You can be crabby if you want, but there’s exciting football coming to Minneapolis.

As if that’s not enough for you, let’s add a LIGHTNING ROD on the defensive side in the form of Dallas Turner.

This man was an electric factory in Alabama and the steal of the first round at #17. Most experts had him in the top 10. Him being there at 17 is an absolute win for us. We gave up a king’s ransom to get him (two 2nds, a 3rd, a 4th, and a 5th), but it’s worth it if he lives up to his potential.

All-in-all, this is as good of a first-round as I could have hoped for. If you told me going into last night that we’d have the Vikings Draft JJ McCarthy and Dallas Turner, while still having next year’s first, I’d sign up for it.
