After starting the day as 31 point favorites over Bowling Green University on Saturday, the Golden Gophers earned another dash in the loss column. That sounds like a funny way to put it, but I say earned with every ounce of emphasis I can as well. From top to bottom, the best word I can think of to describe this team is inept. There was not one shining light to look back on after Saturday’s game, and after just 4 weeks, the college football season is over.
Normally after a Gopher loss on the gridiron, you can find ONE fan (hundreds) complaining about the refs or some arbitrary rule. You can’t really blame them, it’s a tradition in Minnesota sports. This weekend, however, the social feeds had no such complaints. Nothing but hatred and contempt for PJ Fleck, the playbook, and the product on the field. Hell, even the most die-hard Gophers fans were jumping ship while PJ was busy rowing the boat.
Leave it up to the Gophers to not only ruin their football season, but ruin homecoming for the entire campus at the same time. We’ve come a long way from thinking Gopher Football may or may not beat Ohio State. There may not be anything positive to look back on for this game, but that doesn’t mean it’s sui-season for the Gopher faithful. It’s almost October and that marks the end of football and the start of hockey baby!! See you all at Mariucci on the 2nd!!
I’ve been hit by cars three times, which is an indication of how stubborn I am.
I write about everything across the board, but focus on Hockey and the pain that is Minnesota sports.
