NFL Free Agency has been a shit show so far. Many teams are finessing the salary cap, toying with it like a flexi ruler. But what have the Vikings done? Not a whole lot. The new braintrust has made a few solid additions so far, but this week things have really started to take off. The sigh of relief was the news that Danielle Hunter was returning, and THANK GOD.
Then, we got word that a former Packer was in town for a free agency visit. A Packer by the name of Za’Darius Smith.
After weeks of inactivity and Twitter freaking out, the Vikings finally made big moves. Za’Darius Smith had a 4-year deal lined up with the Ravens, but he said sike to that reunion and looked elsewhere. A visit to the mothership that is TCO Performance Center was all he needed to sign on the dotted line with our favorite football team. It was a big change from what we had heard a week prior that Danielle Hunter might be traded. We went from potentially having no pass rush presence to having 2 guys who FUCKING kill shit at the position.
It’s one thing to get a former rival who’s now working for you. But, this one is different. Every since Zaza arrived in Green Bay, he’s been terrorizing Kirk Cousins and our poor offensive line. His performance in 2019 was simply stunning, yet sickening. I bet Kirk Cousins still has nightmares about that night. I know Brian O’Neill does. O’Neill reached out to Smith after the signing and said he’s glad he doesnโt have to face him twice a year now. The defense is slowly but surely coming along, and you love to see it. Who’s ready to meet a the quarterback? ๐
